AMARILLO
Burrowing Owl Books will open the Amarillo Burrowing Owl in early February, 2025.
AUSTIN
Flutter Romance Bookstore opened on February 1 and held their grand opening celebration the weekend of February 14. Owner and author Laurelin Paige sees the store as a “space dedicated to books and devoted to romance, a sanctuary for readers, and a gathering place for like-minded people to find their community.”
Half Price Books will close their Palmer Lane location in early February. A Community Impact article states that a sign on the door indicates lease agreement issues. The other central Texas HPB locations will not be affected.
COLEMAN
SweetCrows Confectionary Bookshop is a new-to-us independent bookstore, “focusing on mystery, horror, fantasy, and true crime books and homemade candies, caramels, marshmallows, and whatever else we feel like making.”
CONROE
The Barnes & Noble store in the Town & Country shopping center held a grand reopening with author Katherine Quinn at the end of January. The store had been closed for renovations since February of 2024.
DALLAS
Poet Bookshop in Oak Cliff plans to open a second location in the Deep Ellum district. Owner Marco Cavazos told KERA that he wishes to host more community and writer events in the new location, which should open in late March.
HOUSTON
After operating as a pop-up romance bookshop since May of 2024, Mossrose Bookshop will open a physical location in the Ironworks building in Houston. The store will hold a grand opening celebration with giveaways and guest authors on March 8.
LOCKHART
We recently added Happy Haunt Books to our list of Texas indie bookstores. Located in a basement off Main St., they focus on gothic, gore, and thriller titles.
NEW BRAUNFELS
The Book Haus announced that they are reopening in April at a new location on Landa Street.
SAN MARCOS
Books-A-Million held a grand opening for their newest location in the Premium Outlets shopping center in San Marcos in January.
TAYLOR
Libros Bookshop announced that they will be closing their brick and mortar store on March 1. They asked that you continue to follow them on social media platforms as they plan next steps.
OTHER INDUSTRY NEWS:
Deep Vellum Publishing announced that they acquired Fum d’Estampa, a British small press founded by translator and book designer Douglas Suttle in 2020. Established with the aim of bringing rich and imaginative Catalan literature to English-speaking audiences, Fum d’Estampa quickly declared itself an ambitious press with a discerning editorial sense and timelessly sophisticated book design.
The American Booksellers Association awarded scholarships to thirty-one booksellers to attend the Children’s Institute 2025 in Portland, OR in June. Texas independent bookstores will be represented by:
