As temperatures around the state are dropping, the Texas literary scene is hotter than ever with celebrations, openings, closings, new festivals, and more. Read on!

AUSTIN 

Reverie Books brought back the Prize Wheel as part of their second anniversary celebration on September 30. The day included mimosas with purchase, face painting, book discounts, free totes, gifts, and more. 

CLEBURNE 

The Published Page announced that they are in need of volunteers to help with their fundraising book sale from November 16 through November 19. Follow their Facebook page for updates on location. They will also be setting up a Facebook group for volunteer coordination. They are raising funds to help the shop recover from a weeks-long closure due to structural damage on the building next door—and to make sure The Published Page remains vibrant. 

COLLEGE STATION 

Hyperbole Bookstore opened on October 6. Co-owners Kathy Miller and her daughter, Kalena Miller, were inspired by their love of literature and writing to launch their own bookshop. A grand opening celebration took place on October 13. 

FORT WORTH 

Monkey and Dog Books won the Fort Worth Weekly Reader’s Choice Best of 2023 Awards for Best Bookstore. 

HOUSTON 

Foltz Gallery Bookstore in the Foltz Fine Art Gallery now offers an ever-growing selection of books and publications relating to Texas Art and Art History, Architecture, Conservation and History.   

PANTEGO 

Pantego Books celebrated their first anniversary on October 7 with store-wide sales, snacks, and prizes. 

PFLUGERVILLE 

Book Burrow owner Kelsey Black attended the Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association FallCon in Denver, CO, where she received the Joyce Meskis Excellence in Bookselling Scholarship. 

SEGUIN 

Pecantown Books & Brews celebrated their one-year anniversary in September with live music, a silent auction from Teatro de Artes de Juan Seguin benefiting student scholarships, and food & drink specials. 

TYLER 

Pea Picker Bookstore announced that, after forty-eight years in business, they will close at the end of this year.  

NEW-TO-US 

AUSTIN 

Torch Literary Arts is a nonprofit in Austin established to publish and promote creative writing by Black women. In addition to publishing both emerging and experienced writers, they also have the Wildfire Reading Series, writing workshops, retreats, and special events. 

Time Being Books is an independent bookstore and reference library, specializing in eclectic printed matter, rare books, and unique reference materials. Time Being offers used and new books spanning genres, with an emphasis on content concerning art, and the avant-garde.  

ROUND ROCK 

Chestnut Publishing House is a minority-owned, multi-media independent publishing company committed to educating, entertaining, and inspiring readers in diverse, underserved, and underrepresented communities. They also support Chestnut Leaps, a literacy community program encouraging family engagement, storytelling, and creative expression. 

ROCKDALE 

Main Street Bookshop opened this past spring in Rockdale. A family-owned independent bookstore, they also offer coffee and gifts in addition to new and used books. 

SPRING 

Good Books in the Woods offers a wide variety of used books as well as an extensive collection of collectible books, including first editions and finely bound books.

The inaugural Rockport Fulton Book Festival is scheduled for April 27-28. Expect a free, fun, family-friendly event on the coastal bend boasting authors from all over Texas. Any authors interested in coming and selling their books, please see their website for further information.
